Laura Serra is the founder of Paws for the Cause, a Toronto-based, non-profit organization whose fundraising efforts help dogs in need. This year’s efforts will benefit the Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic in addition to The Chloe Award, a $5,000 Paws for the Cause scholarship awarded to an outstanding veterinary student at the University of Guelph. Since it began, Paws for the Cause has raised over $100,000. To support Paws, tickets for this year’s Paws Gala can be purchased at www.pawsforthecause.ca.

Paws for the Cause Gala: Some of Our Fave Furry Friends

Bejeweled tails, tattooed fur, colourful extensions and multiple paws took the stage with CP24 host Melissa Grelo at the third annual Paws for the Cause #PawsGala. This year, I am pleased to announce that Paws for the Cause was able to raise $50,000. Check out a few of my favourite decorative dogs of the evening!

Grooming Gets Creative at the Paws for the Cause Gala

One of the most exciting parts about organizing this year's Paws for the Cause Gala is collaborating with so many different dog lovers, and hearing their unique stories about their work with animals. Erica Chou works for the National Association of Professional Creative Groomers, and holds the title of being the first Professional Creative Groomer in Canada. I met with Erica to talk about how the NAPCG became involved with Paws for the Cause, and asked her what we can expect to see at the upcoming event.

Finding the Cause Behind the Paws

As an advocate of canine care, I am proud to be working with 2012 Paws for the Cause benefactor: Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic (CTVRC). Having had my own pet receive emergency clinical care I understand the importance of affordable, professional care for all animals. I talked with Dr. Boyd about plans for the clinic, her 150lb Mastiff, Sargent, and CTVRC's involvement in Paws for the Cause.

A Thank You to the Vets Who Keep Our Pups Safe

As a dog lover, I will always have the utmost respect and appreciation for the veterinarians that help keep our pups happy and healthy. A portion of proceeds from the Paws Gala will go toward the Chloe Award, which is a $5,000 scholarship that is awarded to an outstanding veterinary student. I wanted to catch up with the winner of the first-ever Chloe Award, University of Guelph veterinary student Francesca Di-Mauro.

Instagram's This Wild Idea on Taking his Hound on the Road

When I first came across Theron Humphrey's photography on Instagram (This Wild Idea), myself and the Paws for the Cause team instantly became obsessed with his photos and the relationship he has with his Coonhound Maddie. We knew he'd be a perfect fit for this year's Paws Gala and quickly contacted him to discuss how we could work together. We recently had a chat with Theron to get some insight on his photography, Maddie and of course, his wild idea.

Combining Fashion with Man's Best Friend for a Good Cause

When my Chihuahua puppy, Chloe, was in a terrible accident and needed emergency spinal reconstruction surgery the veterinarian gave us the choice between a $10,000 surgery bill and putting our new puppy down. Was it really a choice? After that I knew I wanted to start a charity that helped dogs who needed life-saving surgeries. That's when Paws for the Cause was born, and later it's annual #PawsGala dog fashion show.
