Manjot Bains is writer, editor and consultant based in Vancouver. In 2010, she co-founded Jugni Style, an online lifestyle magazine, with her business partner and friend, Joti Dhesi. Jugni Style is for the cosmopolitan reader who follows fashion trends from around the world, shops designer, high street and vintage, eats sushi and gulab jamuns with a glass of wine, and has A Fine Balance and Shopaholic on their bookshelf.

Manjot is a member of the Multicultural Advisory Committee for the City of Vancouver, and runs Digital Handloom, a communications and cultural engagement practice. Her not-so-secret addictions: dark chocolate, reading feminist biographies and perusing online sample sales.

It's been almost a year since a gang rape in Delhi overtook the news cycle and sparked protests and discussion about women's safety, sexual violence and patriarchy in India and around the world. On the eve of that anniversary, when we start to ask if there have been any real changes in policing, education and everything else, Anurag Kashyap (Dev D, That Girl in Yellow Boots) releases a short film called, That Day After Everyday, that looks at sexual harassment, surveillance and violence in India.

Finding Strong Indian Women in Hidden Stories

One day, Shauna Singh Baldwin gave her grandmother a notebook and suggested that she write down her personal stories. What emerged were pages of personal memories of the trauma of partition - and it was the first time Shauna and her family heard about their grandmother's experiences. "I realized that until then, my grandfather had been the person who told my grandmother's stories about Partition," she said.
