Max Eisen

88-year old Holocaust survivor. Author. Lecturer. Retired businessman. Lives in Toronto.

MAX EISEN was deported to Auschwitz in the spring of 1944. He is a passionate speaker and educator who volunteers at the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre, participates in the annual March of the Living event, and lectures for the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center of Canada on their annual From Compassion to Action mission to Auschwitz. He currently resides in Toronto with his wife, Ivy. His book, BY CHANCE ALONE: A REMARKABLE TRUE STORY OF COURAGE AND SURVIVAL AT AUSCHWITZ, has been nominated for the 2017 RBC Taylor Prize. He wrote the memoir at the age of 86 - it is his first book.

By Chance Alone I Survived Auschwitz To Tell My Family's Story

While I was able to create a life and family for myself here in Canada and put the anger and pain behind me, my past never left me. In my final goodbye to my father in Auschwitz, he had told me to survive so that I could tell the story of my family. This always stayed with me in the back of my mind.
