Tara MacInnis

Journalist

Tara MacInnis is from small town Nova Scotia, which she traded for Toronto last year. She has a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Francis Xavier University, but spent the majority of her time there in the campus newsroom. Tara is currently completing a master’s in journalism at Ryerson University, and hopes to become a fashion writer.

Finding great second-hand clothing has been her hobby since she was four. Several small Nova Scotia newspapers have published Tara’s work, along with the Huffington Post and the National Post. She interned at the latter, as well as Canadian Living and Cosmetics Magazine.

Fashion is Expression, But is it Art?

To me and to countless others, fashion is another form of expression, like music, literature, art and dance, with the added benefit that everyone in western society participates in it, whether consciously or not. A piece is not created to stagnantly hang on someone's wall -- it is created to be worn on someone's back, and to fulfill a basic human need. If you don't think this can be done artistically, you've been spending too much time looking at American Apparel T-shirts.
