Tarun is a medical student at the University of Ottawa, and is the National Officer of Partnerships for the Canadian Federation of Medical Students. He holds a Master of Public Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at UofT. His passion for global health, in particular refugee and migrant health, has led him to work in Gaza, Zambia, Jordan, as well as Uganda. Tarun is a committed story-teller - through writing and photography - highlighting issues of culture, identity and health.

Medical School Culture Puts Students' Well-Being At Serious Risk

When medical students don their white coats for the first time, they take an oath to devote themselves to the care of their future patients. My oath carried a commitment to 'ensure patient well-being as my main focus and my primary obligation.' Although I wholeheartedly appreciate the notion of caring for my patients with all my energy, to state that one's health aside from my own is my primary obligation speaks to the dangerous sacrifices expected of medical students.
