In May 2015, then Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and the Liberal caucus voted unanimously on Fin Donnelly's motion that there was a moral obligation to injured Canadian Veterans. On August 23, 2015, then prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau announced in Bellville that they were going to re-establish life long pensions to injured veterans. When elected prime minister, Mr. Trudeau's publicly released mandate letter announced that one of the goals laid down to his minister was the reestablishment of life long pensions.
On May 2, 2016, Prime Minister Trudeau did a one-handed push up video flanked by athletes of the Invictus team to call out Prince Harry and President Obama. On May 14th, the Liberal government announced that they were going to reopen the Equitas lawsuit, that is fighting for the reestablishment of life long pensions for veterans.
Think about that on May 2, 2016 the prime minister did one handed push ups with injured veterans, the same veterans that he promised on three separate occasions to re-establish life long pensions, knowing full well that in a mere two weeks' time he was going to take injured vets back to court. To be that self absorbed in thinking that it would not be classless to do so is indicative to the current state of affairs.
In July 2016, it was announced that the port of Churchill was shutting down operations. The response of the government was a $4.6-million investment in tourism by the end of the year. The polar bear migration is October to November, so to depend on two months of tourism is not a plan, cottage season is at least five months long. It is short sighted and insulting to the people trying to make ends meet.
Last week a delegation flew from Churchill to plead with the government to nationalize the port. The minister could not even be bothered to meet with them. At least Fantino showed up to the meeting with the veteran delegation. Perhaps Minister Carr was too busy planning his military campaign on the pipeline protesters.
There is a tweet in which the prime minister says, "The Great Bear Rainforest is no place for a pipeline. Too many communities and too many jobs would be put at risk." The Northern Gateway was not approved I think in great part because of this tweet, if he could have redone it he would not have tweeted this statement.
Thankfully he stayed ambiguous on Kinder Morgan. The pipeline decisions were made politically, even though the Liberals campaigned on a supplementary review of the Trans Mountain expansion project. Instead they used the same system that the previous Conservative government used, not a completely new review.
These new pipelines will then all but guarantee that Canada will not meet its Paris Climate Accord numbers. Then the new Carbon tax is just that, a tax revenue and not a climate measure. Maybe when the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, the Liberals will realize that you cannot eat money.
Speaking of money. Would any one like to pay $1,500 for me to go to a cash for access dinner to ask the prime minister if he knew about reopening the court case on veterans while he was doing one handed push ups. You have billionaires and millionaires paying money to either the Liberal Party of Canada or the Trudeau foundation for access to the prime minister or influential ministers.
This is our Clinton Foundation, and the worst part of how our political system is owned by big business. Especially because Finance Minister Bill Morneau (the Bay Street millionaire) is shilling a new economic growth council that is calling for a national infrastructure bank.
Picture the Pacific Railway Scandal. It will help if the bidders will get a better chance at the projects if they go to these cash for access dinners and donate thousands of dollars to the foundation and will have a great photo op under the new statue of Pierre Elliot Trudeau while you can't get ahead.
"Canadians should get used to so-called 'job churn' -- short-term employment and a number of career changes in a person's life." That was the Bay Street millionaire talking about the precariousness facing the millennial generation.
That is why young Canadians turned their back on their prime minister. He is telling them to forget about careers benefits and retiring with dignity. Those are just election promises, but who keeps those?
Not this prime minister. "We are committed to ensuring that 2015 will be the last federal election conducted under the first-past-the-post voting system." Power has a strange way of changing people's minds. 39.9 per cent of Canadians voted for the Liberal government at a 63 per cent voter turn out rate. If you include the 37 per cent of Canadians that did not bother to vote, then the actual percentage of Canadians that voted for the Liberals would be around 28 per cent. Meaning approximately three out of four Canadians did not actually cast a ballot federally for the Liberal Government. Yet they have 100 per cent of the power.
Now that they have the power that promise to reform is being bungled so badly by Minister Monsef that the 21-month time frame that Elections Canada needs to implement the new changes will not be met. So, in fact the promise of electoral reform is just another broken promise.
There are literally hundreds of them. This is one of a plethora of promises that the current government has failed to keep thus far. Of the 223 promised made by Trudeau 37 have been fulfilled, but he has also broken almost as many as he has kept at 28.
That is why I have put Prime Minister Trudeau up for a Guinness World Record. Not for most selfies by a world leader, or kilometres traveled abroad in the first year as leader. Record 161124012737mbep states "Most Broken Election Promises by a Western Democracy." I will find out in two months' time if the prime minister is in fact the recipient of the new world record, because all future world leaders need to realize that his example is one not to be emulated.
