"Damn Canada Post!"
Listen, I get it. Screw all the greedy, lazy postal workers, they should just accept what they have and stop suckling at the teat which is provided by the Canadian taxpayer.
I read articles and the comments sections are filled with angry people who think that we are worthless, thankless and overpaid for an essentially easy job. Truthfully, they are entitled to their opinions, but the actual amount of sheer misinformation surprises me. Maybe I can clarify some things...
"Letter carriers are paid for by my taxes!"
No, actually Canada Post is a Crown corporation, it's employees are paid from revenue it generates, and some profits go to the Government of Canada. (Thus lessening your taxes.)
"Mail is dead. Everything is digital now."
Mail volumes have decreased and will continue to do so. However, it is far from dead, (ask your grandmother) and all those parcels you order online from Amazon, Ebay, China...they all need to be delivered by someone. (We do it the cheapest.)

While the job of a letter carrier is in theory simple, it doesn't work out that way. The vast majority of new letter carriers quit after a very short time, because the job is actually very physically and mentally demanding. I walk an average of 20km every single day, add to that weather conditions and carrying heavy mail, and it can really suck.

Does anyone honestly think that having a private company, driven ONLY by profitability would keep the cost of your personal mail or package deliveries down?
Realize then that the profits from that company would not then go to the Government, just into the coffers of some other, much larger company.
"The letter carriers want to strike."
Nope. I can't afford to be off work for any length of time. I haven't had a real wage increase in many years, can't afford to lose benefits for my children, I just want to work and earn a living; you know, like you do.
Ultimately, I want to work, Canada Post wants to work, we all want profitability, we all want to stay Canadian. I'm not pro-union or pro-corporation, I'm pro common sense. I just hate being hated for the wrong reasons.
If you must, hate me because I'm beautiful.
