Calgary, Alberta has an exciting story to tell. A story about much recent recognition as a top place for living and business in Canada and the world.

As a born and raised Calgarian, it doesn't get much more exciting than this. When you see multiple newspaper headlines over a short period of time proclaiming your home is one of the top cities for things such as cleanliness, quality of life and prosperity.

It's a magnificent story unfolding before our very eyes, one that has put Calgary at centre stage not only in the national community, but internationally as well. No wonder so many people are choosing to pack up their things and move to Calgary.

Here are some of the most exciting accolades Calgary has received as of late:

Calgary - One Accolade After Another!

#1 City in Canada to Live - 2013

MoneySense magazine has ranked Calgary, Alberta as the top city to live in all of Canada out of 200 cities. Over 33 factors are taken into account including employment opportunities, house prices, weather and household income to name a few.

While MoneySense hasn't looked at the personal experiences of every person in Canada which might make their home the best for them, what has been considered are very good indicators of just how good or bad a place would be to live in!

#1 City in Canada to Raise a Family - 2013

You could say being the best place to live goes hand in hand with being the best place to raise a family. According to MoneySense Magazine, this is true. They found Calgary to be the best place to raise a family in Canada for 2013.

Live in Calgary for a little while and you will see why; friendly people, safe communities, over 5,300 parks in 10,000 hectares of land, ample employment opportunity and high incomes are a few of the reasons.

#1 Cleanest City in the World 2013

For three years Calgary has been named as one of the top 3 cleanest cities in the world by Mercer Global Financial and HR Consulting. In 2013 the city managed to take the #1 spot. Factors include sewage system quality, air pollution, traffic congestion, water drinkability and availability and waste removal.

The City of Calgary has taken many initiatives to make it a cleaner, more environmentally friendly place to live. The Blue Bin and Too Good To Waste recycling programs are two of the most innovative ways to reuse and recycle.

#2 Prosperous City in the World 2013

Calgary has been named the second most prosperous city in the world by the Toronto Board of Trade's annual prosperity rankings.

A consistently strong economy has kept Calgary at the top of many indicators used to determine scores, placing it second only to Paris and in front of London. The report looks at 24 major metropolitans in the world!

#5 City to Live in the World in 2010, 2011 and 2012

The Economist Livability Survey has found Calgary to be the 5th best place to live in the world in 2010, 2011 and 2012! 30 different factors are considered including education, safety, healthcare, infrastructure and environment.

Of 7 billion people, roughly 1.25 million Calgarians have the privilege of living in the 5th most livable city in the world. That's only 0.018% percent of the world's population who get to enjoy the fruits of living in such a wonderful place!

What's Next for Calgary?

If the past is any indicator of what's to come, Calgary's consistently strong economy and character in the community will continue to propel it towards candidacy for many more awards and recognition as one of the top places in Canada and the world.

Surely there is another accolade just around the corner with the way things are going in Calgary. Now we will just have to wait and see.
