If oil revenue drops then Canadians will have to pay more taxes to make up the difference. Maybe they will realize that 'free' government benefits like universal health care are not really free. Probably a good lesson for the spoiled entitlement generation.

LOL. I always crack up when I hear the "spoiled" bs. Every generation works longer hours and has less than the one before.

Future estimated federal tax revenue from the oil sands are an average of 7 billion/year.
If that were to drop to 0, federal taxes would have to increase by 3% to make up the difference.

Nobody thinks free benefits are actually free, everyone realizes they come from taxes. Intelligent people recognize that it is in our best interest to provide social safety nets like health care, as opposed to adopting America's failing social system.

Although I suppose if we wanted to save some tax dollars, we could just institute a new policy wherein every old person who disagrees with any level of welfare state automatically have their social security cheques cancelled, and subsidizes on their medication revoked.
