the Liberals gained more than the Conservatives; how is this a win for the Conservatives?

It's really really simple. Conservatives vs. Oposition

Before the "score" was 35 to 65,

now it's 36 to 64

Harper is raising the bar too high for Trudeau. The next 3 years are going to be very ugly.
05:13 PM on 11/13/2012
If Trudeau or any other leader moves the Liberals to the Left, they will be identical to the NDP. At that point, many RW Liberals would vote for Harper or stay home on Election Day.
03:08 PM on 11/13/2012
How many times must it be repeated? The NDP and Liberals must unite in order to get elected and achieve the goals of the majority of Canadians. Instead, it appears that the egos of Liberal and NDP leaders prevent this from happening and play into the hands of Harper. Isn't it time to get smart!

Lot's of NDP'ers become Liberals. There's nothing stopping them from doing so. But I don't think it's up to the either party's executive committee to make that decision for everyone. There are many in the NDP who like their party to be uncompromising, and the Liberal party is a party of compromise.

We should be petitioning them both and telling them to smarten up and start co-operating with each other to get rid of Harper!

Don't worry. There are very dark days ahead for the Canadian economy, for which the Cons are fully accountable. Plus, they only won the last two times because of the Liberal party's lame choices for leader. The Cons will not see another election win. Possibly ever.

Fully one third of this country is in.sane and will vote for these creeeps no matter what.

They will win by default until the opposition political parties drop their petty squabbling and unite to throw these crooks out of government.
06:34 PM on 11/13/2012
The oppositional parties do not share the same platform. Some people will never vote for an NDP type party. The Liberal Party for many people is the cushion between these two parties. I think their merger would drive those who seek a strong economy with trade and growth to vote for the Conservatives.

Agree with you completely. How would you suggest changing the current situation so that "we the people" can reclaim our governments at all levels?

People, this is serious. The CONS are dangerous. They got their "majority" through subterfuge and are selling the country down the river to the Chinese for nickels and dimes. Practically everything this government has done since last year is a scam or illegal. Everything this government has done has been a scandal and a slap in the face to all Canadians.

And what have the good people of Canada done? Nothing. We need to organize right now to get these criminals out of government. I don't care if it takes mass strikes and nation-wide demonstrations for months on end like we did in Quebec to get rid of these guys, but something's got to happen and soon. Three more years of these crooks and the country is done, kaputt.

Some advice. The last FB group to get mass protests off the ground had a lot of students put together signs and define a protest walking route. They had a well defined structure that defined march dates, yet still allowed for local autonomy on what they were doing. Note though they sold out in two protests just before the Olympics and couldn't be bothered to validate the 25,000 people who joined their group with another protest. Why did they give up? They sought media validation of their actions rather than having their own objectives.

Solve the above, build an online organization, weed out the malcontents and police, and you may have a chance. But it can't all be done by Anonymous. Some of us can't put our faces forward but you have our vote and support. There are those who can be rallied as the last proroguing protest clearly showed. Don't seek media validation but Canadian word of mouth. Just don't give up on people, forget the media, and momentum can then indeed occur.

Unfortunately The Conservatives will win the election in 2016 as long as both the NDP and Liberals deny the obvious they are splitting the vote to anything left of the Conservatives. Until the Ndp and Liberals find some common ground and merge in to a super party like the Conservatives did with the Reform Party and Progressive Conservatives we are getting a step closer every day to being the Fascist Regime of Canada

Time is growing very short. If the reformers actually gave a hoot about Canada and Canadians they might be able win a popular majority as opposed to relying on @35% of the voters and electoral games as outlined above.

The Third-place Liberal party is "surging" to 22%, Wow - how amazing since this is statistically more or less their results in the 2011 election. This emerging narrative is a non-story.
