Anyone remember that food scandal back in the '80s involving the Tories (aka the Regressive Preservatives, under Lyin' Brian) and tuna? I understand that the parliament restaurant had a special on its menu - "Tuna Catch-a-Tory"

And almost 30 years later, the more things change, the more they remain the same.

As I recall the minister responsible resigned when it was found out tuna unfit for consumption in Canada was being shipped to Africa. Remember those days? When hard hitting journalism from the CBC reported on tough issues, and then ministers resigned because they had lost credibility?

I don't recognize Canada anymore. Harpergeddon

most canadians accept crap. plain simple. in everything. when will you see canadian life for what it is, limited and unenlightened, totally uninspired? embarrassing expose after expose and still you slap each other on the back, oh yes, my, arent we the greatest... we've been pushing our luck/ underperforming for decades and somewhere out there exists a group of politicians who know when our 'big crisis' will come and what form it will take and because they are canadian they sit in their chairs waiting. it cant be long before we all get our comuppance, but electeds wont be worried as they are taken care of for life. nice folks, keep on rockin'...

Being expendable has been a common theme with this government. No surprise here.

What's required is a Canadian version of Elizabeth Warren to right this ship and create a consumer protection bureau with the clout to put the perps responsible in prison or bankruptcy or both.

All industrial meat has contaminants. You MUST COOK it to kill them.

Stop using this as lame excuse for political gain.

What part of "All industrial meat has contaminants." was so hard for you to comprehend?  Industrial meat has ALWAYS been contaminated.  This is nothing more than political opportunism.

Keep telling yourself that all you have to worry about as a consumer of meat is whether you've cooked it long enough. You should probably take a food safety course before you eat another bite.

I don't eat industrial meat, it's toxic, and the animals are raised inhumanely.

You should probably stop making unfounded assumptions about people you don't know.

"...the position referred to in the document is “the last inspection station on the line. So I’m not sure what they think comes later in the process that would pick that up.”
I think the consumer would pick it up. Who's lying? Minister Ritz or Bob Kingston?

We see all the corruption and yet the conservative supporters are blind. I am so frustrated that we are helpless to stop them. They are destroying my Country.

That should be a jail sentence, plan and simple.

(I can also admit to wishing the "Honourable" minister might eat some of what those who got sick did to gain some personal insight into how much they suffered.)

The Conservatives are building a case against themselves brick by brick. By 2015 they are going to have the great wall of China and the only thing that will save them is a very robust economy which I don't see happening but it might.

However the Liberals might elect another dud as leader and the NDP aren't exactly going gangbusters plus we have the Green Party not to mention the Bloc could stage a comeback which could all result in a big split on the not-Conservative vote that could lead to a victory for them. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Be careful everyone... this isn't just the 'Conservative Gov't of Canada'. It is now to be known as the 'Harper Government of Canada'.

This is getting very scary folks!
