There should be an in-depth article about Israeli sleeper cells that have taken over the American and Canadian governments.

The headline should read "Petro State and Proud." Most Canadians are quite happy with our plentiful natural resource and content to keep enjoying the nice standard of living it affords us. Those who want to complain better not be doing so using a computer made from plastics.

I threw $20,000 worth of tax dollars at the feds & the province this year thanks to an oilfield job; I'd like to think I'm helping keep the economy going.

What standard of living? Record debt and deficit. High unemployment, spying, vote suppression tactics which are an affront to DEMOCRACY,this country has actually gone downhill for some years now but, it is not all the cons fault. Somethings are world problems that affects us all.

With a comment like that I would assume your one of the conbots from the PMO.

With a comment like yours I would assume you are a rich kid crying at a birthday party because your daddy bought you the wrong colour pony.

The Canadian standard of living is among the highest in the world and we owe our resource industries for almost all of that.

The minister considers it appropriate to meet with a variety of groups, including those from industry to.... make the biggest conflict of interests ever done in Canada, subject to trial .

Geo-centric bias seems to be at play here in terms of who has influence. Petro interests in off shore Atlantic drilling never seem to be the focus of outrage nor did the past 60 some years of Asbestos lobbying in the face of international disgust. Nuclear power is still operating in southern Ontario and acid rain is a ongoing problem from coal burning power plants in eastern America.

But it's clearly and inconvenient truth to acknowledge that finger pointing at the west for daring to elect someone not approved of by the French connection is the imagined cause of all our problems.

If our countries GDP was based on the manufacturing of baloney instead of resources; Toronto politicians would be quaffing Dom Perignon and nibbling Russian caviar while complaining that the rubes out west were draining the public purse.

Like a nephew who is always in need of money but resents the required etiquette to thank.

Our GDP is not so good this quarter and looking to sink further. We need manufactering, the government should not be giving huge tax breaks and incentives to one industry!

A return to large manufacturing industries such as steel and rubber doesn't seem likely and they were no more environmentally friendly than bitumen production. Something we have conveniently forgotten in the race to blame Alberta for every bit of atmospheric carbon.

I do think we should focus more on adding value to our resources. Shipping abroad our finished lumber instead of raw logs, piping processed gasoline and diesel instead of raw bitumen. Encourage more ship/railroad building at home and providing incentives to manufacture here instead of abroad. Free trade that results in a net loss is not free nor is it trade.

07:04 PM on 12/04/2012
Facts and scientists are just part of that 'inconvenient truth'. But since science is discounted by the Harperites they are really more of an inconvenient opinion.

It's so funny to watch the Harper haters spewing their personal hatred for anyone who doesn't believe just like them. They have such short memories, and can't seem to recall that's it's been like this with every government regardless of political stripe. Rational people call that lack of objectivity and it seems to be a common handicap with the haters.

05:44 PM on 12/04/2012
It hasn't 'been like this' with every other government; the omnibus bills, all sorts of electoral fraud, the combative pose against it's own citizens; all this and more is pretty new to Canadian politics. If Harper and his minions are hated, it is because of the contempt they show for Canada.
05:52 PM on 12/04/2012
Harper is promoting Canada and giving a positive image of our great country. Unfortunately, what you see from the outside is a disturbing thought because, in doing this, Harper is destroying what makes us great. Nature and the people. Harper's agenda is simple... oil and power, the rest...no care at all.
05:02 PM on 12/04/2012
No one should be too surprised with this as the Harper RefooormCons have made no bones about the fact that they have a Corporations First Government and all others are a very distant second.
04:56 PM on 12/04/2012
All the strides forward we made in the last 50 years to a balanced and after "extrction" economy our present PM`s hatred of P E T has led him to dismantle all that was done. Are not our leaders to be above this and lead all of Canada to future prosparity.
04:55 PM on 12/04/2012
When is the dear leader going to get rid of the lobbyist registry so he can claim everyone has equal access.
04:53 PM on 12/04/2012
I'm shocked ....shocked I tell you.
Who knew the oil industry had such influence in ottawa.

The environmental groups weren't excluded, they just couldn't get into the offices
for all the oil and mining lobbyists.

This isn't really news. Anyone who's been paying attention knows that Harper Inc. is only interested and/or able to deal with one sector of the economy. The long term fallout from Harper's policies will be painful as other sectors of the economy have been ignored and some left to die off. If the Americans succeed in becoming energy independent, there will be a nasty impact on the Canadian economy.
11:55 PM on 12/04/2012
There will also be a nasty impact on the economy when the first nations group together and start demanding inclusion.
Up to now there have been no talks that have included them,no sharing of resources and being blocked from the hoc should really kindle the fire that is about to be launched over all that Harper and the oil industry are trying to bully through.
ROADBLOCKS on highways and railroads, pipelines destroyed, etc, etc. Wait for it.
Threatening the natives is the same as Israel continuing to build on palestinian claimed land.
Watch for it. We have seen the power of the first nations before and I hope that we see it again. These people will tie up everything that Harper wishes for the oil industry and ,so much for his great promises of wealth for everyone??
My hope is they start soon and canadians get behind them I certainly will.
Go native brothers,It seems it is up to you to stop some of this insanity.
