give me a break. this nurse took her life because the media constantly called her out for being tricked, which she should have been called out for. the shock jocks didnt have any contact with the woman! shes in britain, they are in australia. she definitely didnt listen to their show. it was the bbc who constantly reported that she was a fool etc etc that probably brought her to kill herself. sue the bbc! sue the bbc!

Deeply saddened, but not saddened enough to stop playing the clip and take it off the website.

The radio personalities knew in advance if they fooled someone that person would probably be fired or worse. It's called entrapment. Shame on them!

Really? What about the fact that the call also upset Prince William, the Duchess’ husband? A source said: “There is a lot of anger about this. Prince William was said to be furious when he found out. Kate is vulnerable and weak at the moment and these people think it’s funny to make a joke out of it?” According to various media, the future King made his anger known. http://www.canadianprogressiveworld.com/2012/12/07/nurse-duped-by-kate-middleton-hoax-found-dead/

"Vulerable and weak", she is sick in the hospital not naked in an alleyway. She got prank called not beat with a stick. Go get upset about so real world problems.

Are we going to ban prank calling now? Geeze a prank is a prank, it didn't even go "too far". I'm not saying its the woman's fault but it isn't the hosts

More speech. Less Flagging.

It's easy to get angry after the fact at these two (anger that they richly deserve) but it's not as if they exist in a vacuum. Someone was listening and probably laughing. Lots of "someones" were. Pranks stoke ratings and ratings sell ads and sales makes management happy and regulators look the other way because rich licensees have friends in high places. If this nurse hadn't done what she did no one would have cared what these two DJ's did because seeing the potential for a bad outcome from a tasteless prank isn't generally a characteristic found in most people. Most people will read about this and respond with a dispassionate "huh". Will it make a significant number of people take pause from what is perpetrated over the public airwaves on a regular basis? Nope. They'll move on. After all, unlimited free speech has no downside, only unintended consequences. Just don't yell "fire" in a theater. That case has already been settled.

It was a prank and not a mean-spirited one at that.

If blame must be leveled, do it at the British media who continue to throw buckets of offal into the feeding frenzy they created around the royal family. I can only imagine the abuse that was heaped on this innocent person.

Unfortunately these 2 gutter trash DJs will be rewarded somehow. After all, this controversy will bring them notoriety which usually brings them $$$. While this poor nurse's family mourns her death

Another case of media thinking they can do anything under the guise of freedom of speech and freedom of the press . This needs to stop . Sue the heck out of them . It's time we held reporters , news agencies , papers and other media outlets responsible for malicious and false reporting . Even if they say sorry or their sources were wrong , the damage is done and cannot be repair . Those peoples live are ruined , but the news goes on .

Bullying in another FORM ! I thought bullying was being suppressed World Wide ? Causing embarrassment, emotional distress, undue criticisim, and world wide scrutiny IS BULLYING !
The radio "personalities" should receive World Wide Condemnatioin, lose their jobs, and be
ostrasized daily....can they take the "prank".......

Except that the DJ's had no idea who this woman was, and neither did anyone else. Other media sources brought her to the attention of the public.

This is such a horrible story because of the tragic suicide, but if you visit the stations website:

http://www.2dayfm.com.au/

you'll quickly see that their entire programming is specifically geared to a juvenile audience. Much like a lot of radio in the west as well. Too bad people LOVE this stuff, until something like this happens and then everyone wags their fingers at it.

No doubt that this is very sad indeed, especially for her family, how ever some people are making out that the DJ's directly mocked or persecuted this woman, they barely spoke to the lady that has died, she was simply the one who put the call through. The DJ's at no time mocked her that I heard. Lets get the facts right first.

The BBC reported that Mrs Saldanha answered the phone because it was 5.30am and there was no receptionist on duty. She then put the pair through to the duty nurse.

So as you can see it appears the lady who did all the talking was the duty nurse not Mrs Saldanha. Can the huffington confirm this?

I've heard "morning-zoo" prank calls that were a lot more cruel and malicious than this one; in fact, it's pedestrian by comparison.

The DJs were doing what their audiences - and their employers - pay them to do.
I have empathy for them. They surely feel horrible.
They could never have dreamed it would end this way, and I'm sure they would turn back time if they could...
