This was all very preventable right from the start, but China and Russia kept vetoing Syria in the United Nations to prevent further sanctions or imposing a no-fly zone.
Now there's almost 45,000 dead Syrians and our honorable comrade Harper has decided to invite those corrupt murdering sons of bi$che$ into our Country to have at our resources, pretty sad if you ask me.

Lucky you.. I referred to comrade Harper and got censored .. Apparently the censors are not aware that a number of very reputable journalists now routinely refer to Mr. Harper as Comrade because of his close ties to China.

They just want to strong arm a few Canadians like they do so many Americans it's a heck of a deal if you can get the Government to look the other way.

First Charge they make Canada should respond with a boycott!

Yes because Iraq managed to ship out or destroy all of it's WMD's (which it did have at some point re: Halabja) there is no reason to believe they exist at all, anywhere, according to the comments on here. Of course it's rather irrelevant considering the only people who may have to face the consequences of these horrible weapons are the Syrians themselves and potentially the Israelis. It's pretty easy to yap about awful old Baird and whatever else when you are not looking down the barrel of that gun.

The US sold Iraq its WMD's when it was at war with Iran. They knew exactly how much Iraq had, and they knew exactly how much they had used. They also knew after Gulf War I that Iraq had none left because they oversaw the destruction of any remaining stockpiles. And they ensured that Iraq had no capability of producing any more. The Bush administration lied through their teeth about WMD's in Iraq to sucker fools into a never ending war that benefits only the arms producers.

I agree Bush lied through his teeth but it is impossible to ensure that a modern country does not have the capability of producing chemical or biological weapons. All it takes is the money and the will. The rest can basically be found on the internet. And it's a well known fact that Assad has stockpiles of wmd's, even France acknowledges that much. So you can talk about Iraq all you want but it changes nothing about what is going on in Syria.

BS in a neon sign!!!!

Baird is concerned as are the rest of his front bench, one-synapse club. Where was that concern over the last 1.5 years while Assad gone on with the slaughter of now about 40,000 of his own civilians while CANADA continued business with Russia and China....now that spells concern.

1. I didn't/don't advocate a Western attack on Syria. 2. Western military intervention in Syria, now, in the past, and/or in the future would be a failure. 3. China and Russia are not in the West. 4. China and Russia hold major sway with Syria, through business and through the UN Security Council, so they could have should have intervened to stop the slaughter; and 5. My point: Baird, the US lapdog, expresses his concern in lockstep with the US when he could have publicly denounced China and Russia inaction in Syria, but then again, Mr. Speth, business speaks louder than action.

The Syrians broke into tears as fear swept over the populace. Just the image of a snarling Baird has caused them to rethink what they're doing. Then John woke from his dream when the timer on his automatic hot dog machine whimpered.

Was CHEMICAL WEAPONS the reason for the Rwandan genocide, of 1994?

Eight hundred thousand people were killed - did we do, all that could have been done, to help prevent that tragedy?

What did THE UNITED NATIONS do to prevent that?

No s***t sherlock, where have you been hiding Mr.Blair, this has been news since the war broke out in Syria, that the chemical weapons will be removed. So what is the Harper gang going to do? May be they should ask their good friend Netanyahu. I am sure he will have plan that you can agree with.

"Foreign Minister John Baird said today Canada has grave concerns that Syria might be ready to use chemical weapons on its own people or its neighbours, or that the weapons could fall into the hands of a radical extremist group..."

Five days ago: "U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta - serious concerns that Syrian may use chemical weapons against the country's own citizens."

Dec 5th: "Israel's vice prime minister, Moshe Yaalon is concerned about chemical weapons falling into the hands of anti-Assad insurgents as it is about them being used by state forces in the Syrian civil war - Yaalon said: "There is speculation that the chemical arsenal will fall into the hostile and irresponsible hands, the likes of al Qaeda or other terrorist groups."

Perhaps the insinuation there, is; the British having used chemical weapons before, in that region, was justifiably, a responsible thing to do?

So is BIRD just cluing in - realizing that he needs to say something too?

Check this headline out: "Israel suspected over Iran nuclear programme inquiry leaks"
Western officials believe Israel may have leaked information from IAEA investigation in bid to raise global pressure on Tehran

BIRD'S demeanor tends to give the impression, that he's anxious to stir up trouble...always looking to start a fight?

The more serious concern is the leakage of such hypothetical weapons to the el qaeda based rebels whom the US and the Harper regime are providing material support to based in part on such propaganda initiatives as this one.
