On the pirate ships of old - Martin would be considered a 'loose cannon.' Apparently these cannon things were on skids - and once the boat hit a few waves - no one knew exactly where they were firing. ETC.

Too far, even if a politician annoys you to no end, a good statesmen will keep his cool and respond politely.

Good for him tell it like it is They insult Canada with their lies daily!

They deserve no pity nor apology.

Say what you want Pat is still a gentlemen when it comes to the ladies. He just emailed Solomon (CBC) apologizing to any "working women" he may have insulted with his remarks.

Martin should be fired. End of story.

He is supposed to be a representative of the people. Is this now an acceptable form or talking to one another? If he can't act like an adult in a very adult job, then he should resign.

Mr Martin...The youth that are in Serious trouble in Winnipeg need something to do other than gang activity. You have some serious issues with these gangs and someone is trying to help and give alternatives then you don't agree. You truely are a dissappointment to WPG. Too bad you have no clue and people still voted for you....Winnipeg has to smarten up and get rid of these clowns.

Pat takes free trips to - let's the 'sponsored Mideast.' (Well ok - so does Mulcair and Judy W.)
What actually set this off ? Does he have a problem with Christianity ?

Sadly, this is politics in Canada. The ruling dictator has upset more than a few people. Politicians are people too. The more human, the better.

These are the people we elect to run our country. They represent us as a nation. This is not how I want to be represented.

Perhaps after his self imposed twitter exile he could acquaint himself with other animals and drop the use of rat. Bunny, kitten, chipmunk come to mind as excellent alternatives

At least he's honest enough to reprimand himself for bad behavior.

However justified the MP's indignation may be, the effect of his protest is diminished by the use of such an ill-considered expression. Self-control should be a requirement for having a Twitter account.

You've never heard how the Conservatives act in the House of Commons. Makes Mr. Martin seem like Mr. Rogers.

I think the expression was quite well considered..... he totally nailed it. It's good to have someone give public voice to what so many of us are thinking.

His decision to tweet it was maybe not so well considered. However, twitter would go broke in a nanosecond if self-control was a requirement.

I feel sorry for Vic Toews. The truth must really hurt.

Aww...poor Pat.

First, he's against the YFC project, then when Wpg. city council votes to support the project, Pat flip-flops and goes along for the ride. Then, when not invited to the dance, throws the grandest of hissy-fits, and completely embarrasses the surprisingly competent provincial NDP govt.

Mulcair must be doing a serious face-palm, right now.

the bbc is no paragon of serious science but it features today a "Q&A: the science of what bugs us" that i think would serve pat martin well:

"Can being annoying be used to our advantage?

Athletes sometimes annoy their opponents as a trick to try and get under their skin and put them off their game. The famous example is when Zinedine Zidane head butted Marco Materazzi, who was trash-talking him [In the world cup final in 2006]. He wasn't trying to insult him but to annoy.

Sports psychologists say people do this all the time - they are trying to use annoyance to unhinge their opponents as a functional tool."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/0/20665841

-the use of annoyance has been used very effectively by the neocons, time for the opposition parties to use it on them, i'd say. it takes almost no intelligence to be childish but being able to turn it around and deflect it takes grace and intelligence that people admire. what got van loan's dander was a random occurence but it'd serve pat well to study it.

The Conservatives have a well orchestrated effort underway to try & diminish the role of any MP other than their own.
Not inviting an elected MP to a funding announcement in his/her own Riding is just the tip of the iceberg.

This is the same Party that actually hired a DEFEATED Conservative candidate & parachuted him in to Liberal MP. Irwin Cotter's Montreal Riding to 'shadow him'.
They did this on the public payroll to 'represent the Government to it's constituents'

Is it any wonder such tactics are met with such disdain by those in the know?

I would be interesting to conduct a forensic audit of the books when they are defeated. I suspect there are lots of tax dollars used for strictly partisan purposes
