it is just a matter of time, when the guns get into the hands
of the drug lords and the guns will end up back in Canada
in the wrong hands along with more drugs being shipped in
from Columbia.

The Tories, latest move indicates, anything for a vote and it
is all about money.

well, in spite of a known interest etc in this.[with all 3 depts btw!] I was not "consulted" via the net, perhaps because I would have reacted negativly to this outcome??..notice the language people??.. "arms merchants".. not "arms manufacterers",, a slight but significant difference, no?,..The problem is not that legitimate enforcement will have these weapons, the problem is! that many can and will be intercepted in transit etc and used by the criminal elements, again! still! whatever,..there have been multiple incidents where secure sites were stormed etc for the sole reason of obtaining these weapons,[and they also have a tendency to "go missing" ahem? in transit as well],so,,lets find out who the "merchants" are shall we?..I know it is overused, but "merchants of death" is the correct term, and this is not my Canada!, never was and never will be,..we!, the entire world! have far too many of these weapons already, the very last thing we need is more!,..and or to be a "distributor" of death,,Geeeez Louise Canada, what is! going on here? asleep at the switch? again?..

Exactly - what we have here, is a CORPORATION - registered as CANADA.

LOL!!

Canada is, was, and will continue to be one of the world's top exporters of military arms.

YOUR Canada never was....outside of your delusions.

'THEY' can do that anytime and all the time - that's because 'they' are too comfortable; thinking that we are all in left field - and distracted.

Yes, and it is the mennonite community in Abbotsford,w ho are
strong supporters of Harper, yet, they do not beleive in war.

To top that off, Cascade Aerospace just received a major
military maintenance contract via Harper.

Hypocrisy, when it comes to the money.

Last year Canada signed a free trade pact with Panama and Colombia, two of the worst narco, money laundering states in the world. It only stands to reason that all that Canadian money being laundered down there be secure. It's a win win situation. We sell them the arms, they keep a corrupt state going and certain friends of certain people get their money laundered.
10:48 AM on 01/03/2013
It's time the world moved on the arms manufacturers like it did on the cigarette manufacturers. After all they kill way more people. Some groups are pulling their investment dollars out. Everyone should. Don't expect our present government to be ethical in this respect.

I'm curious. These cannot be sold in Canada...so how do Canadian gun merchants obtain them for resale? Surely if they cannot be sold, they cannot be imported or manufactured?

The military in Canada uses arms produced in Canada.

This would not be resale, but the sale of newly manufactured arms to the security forces of Colombia.

Isn't it obvious? Harper does cocaine - that is the only logical explanation. He wants to help the drug lords and in return he get his blow free.

We gripe about all the guns coming into Canada from the USA, then we do something like this. I think we deserve it.

So....the police in Colombia should have to engage FARC with their bare hands???

Don't be ridiculous.

We are not selling these weapons to the people, Colombia has tougher gun laws than Canada (a lot of good it does them!!!)

This is a POTENTIAL deal to supply weapons to the Colombian police and/or military.

Good on us.

yada, yada, yada. if you believe in social darwinism (as your posts strongly suggest) then you can't really have any credibility in wanting to interfere in what clearly is an arms race.

And American gun manufacturers would argue that they are merely supplying guns to citizens, and that it is not their fault that criminals get hold of them.

So that's why we're involved in the "war on drugs"! There's good money in it for our arms manufacturers. I'm just confused as to why the current government is opposed to urban needle exchanges that "enable drug use" though. You might think that these facilities could increase funds to the Colombian drug cartels that are the potential purchasers of automatic weapons. If we're going to develop market opportunities, why hold back at our end? (sarcasm, in case anyone is wondering)

RIGHT.

We are going to send pallets of automatic weapons to the country of Colombia to be distributed amongst the narco-terrorists.

Really, how silly do you have to be to take this ludicrous article at face value???

CANADA ACCOMPLICE TO CRIME

Colombia has between 2 and 300 000 annual deaths from violent crime, which may fit under the guerilla, para-military, common delinquency, drug related etc. headings.

To export arms to Colombia is to be accomplice to crime.

Hear that Mr. Harper?

Harper is deaf, no matter how loud you shout he won't hear you. He only cares about himself. Selling these types of weapons is in my opinion similar to committing a war crime.

Because people use them. Military, police, the security at our nuclear plants all use them in Canada.

There is absolutely no reason why we should not arm the police and military of friendly democratic countries.

The government needs to focus on why people
are resorting to violence not continue to provide
more opportunity to further the violence.

The Harper government should be helping Columbia,
by providing more supports that do not include high powered
guns.
