Won't hurt Princess Di's chances at re-election, considering she pumped $300 MILLION of your money into her own riding to "buy out" tobacco farmers...who ended up staying in business by "selling" to relatives.

Is her husband still doing the door-to-door insurance for dying MPs thingie?

Sure has changed from the early 70's, then you only had to work eight weeks to be able to collect for a year. The provinces had phoney two month "make work" projects to get people off their welfare roles (UIC was federal). Now the pendulum has swung the other way and it's next to imposable to get.

We led the world, then guess what happened around 1974-1975 and it has been all down hill ever since?

Government began borrowing money from foreign lenders. Treasonous at best due to the compound interest. Prior, we already had a National Debt but it was maintained and stagnant and held by the Bank of Canada. They controlled the size of the debt, the print of legal tender, inflation and most importantly… non-compound interest rates.

Other countries like USA did it too and they are all in the same boat now because all the wealth from labor, resources taxes etc. goes and has been going to the debt since. We are talking hundreds of trillions simply gone and is never coming back.

So where did it go? Books are closed so we will likely never have concrete evidence. Bets are players controlling the Bilderberg Group meetings every year are the very same and completely shrouded in secret.

First no budget, then no confidence, then majority government, then mega-bills pushed through overnight, Hmmm seems a little coincidental especially since Harper cheated to gain majority.

When will people realize the real problem and do something about it? Perhaps now, it is too late.

Welcome to Harper's corner of the New World Order.

Far too few people aware of the dangers of Foreign controlled debt and subsequent currency manipulation strategies. Well articulated.
All too easy for Bilderberg and House of Rothschild to keep people ignorant.

I have always believed that much of the government’s bureaucratic paperwork is discriminatory against people with learning or cognitive disabilities. To deter the few who try to take advantage of financial assistance programs, Governments design paperwork specifically so that it is difficult to complete. Unfortunately, this makes it impossible for many people with disabilities to access the assistance they so desperately need. Some of my heroes are the Special Education teachers who help students with disabilities complete the endless difficult paperwork required for the transition from educational funding to assistance in adult life. But there are thousands and thousands of people who need a hand up but never get it because of the way the paperwork is designed. They often end up in a life of crime, homeless or institutionalized. I speculate that designing humane criteria for approving financial assistance would be cost effective because it is cheaper to provide financial assistance than to institutionalize people.

Actually with privatized prisons, it is now cheaper to institutionalize than give financial assistance. In the states now but coming to a prison near you soon. Dont doubt it for a second.

New rules; what a crock.
This comes around with every Conservative government; play to selfishness, greed, cynicism and the idea that the unemployed are stealing YOUR tax dollars. It's the fox in the henhouse that needs reform; giving off the appearance of governance whilst lining pals pockets selling off the country to foreign interests, be it policing powers of the citizenry awarded to the USA or the give away of resources to China.

The problem is I do not oppose it. People claim it wrong the people who claim EI and abuse it are the ones who work half a year with a full years pay and get a half a year off and say they are "unemployed''. S

I live like a King and make less then most I have ever met. Perhaps it is time for people to re evaluate their needs versus wants. EI should be given to those who need it. But no one should really need it if they organize their life properly. Lets be honest. People live beyond their means.
Harper sucks but so does materialistic society. EI? How about save a buck.

You should try job-hunting while 5 months pregnant. The odds of finding a job within the next 5 months are fat, slim and none.
04:10 AM on 01/07/2013
This point exactly. I am supposed to be able to use the EI system to help with my maternity leave, as our savings aren't enough. My job required too much bending, twisting, and lifting and as of 6 months along I was no longer medically able to work. Now I'm being told that, even though I've paid into the system for the last 11 years, that I may not qualify for what someone else would receive as I'm still technically employed... I just can't work. How is that fair? I don't qualify for medical EI because I'm pregnant, but the maternity aspect of the system has me even more disadvantaged. I would receive more money if I went on welfare. You work to pay into a system that is supposed to help you when your life plans veer off course, and then you're told you may not qualify under the new rules, or you won't be eligible for as much as you would have before? What a slap in the face.

Nonsense. It's really hard to qualify for and collect EI. You essentially have to be laid off (as opposed to being fired or quitting) without prospect of being hired for an extended period of time. And, the government makes more money from it by far than it pays out - i.e. it's a tax grab.

Yep. My daughter paid into into it since she was 16, and was terminated in February this year. She had a huge hassle getting her claim accepted, even though she'd paid in for nearly 14 years.

People have paid in to that gravy train, looks like the CONservatives are planning to save 33 Mil in payouts next year, I will bet they haul our contributions out of that account and spend it on one of their screw ups instead. CONs have no concept of priorities and less of fiscal responsibility.

Harper seems to think the yankee system is the best possible world, but the record reveals that, as the business structure has taken more complete control of that system, the living standards of the people there have diminished precipitously.

what about foreign workers flooding the country and taking the jobs away? is that part of the equation too?
10:39 PM on 01/06/2013
Canadians don't want the jobs those foreign workers are doing.

That's what makes the foreign worker program necessary. This isn't rocket science.

Why don't Canadians want the jobs foreign workers are doing? Maybe low pay/slave labor and poor working conditions? Why don't Canadians want the coal mining jobs going to Chinese foreign workers in BC?

So, in desperate times, seasonal and unskilled workers who are obviously more vulnerable to unemployment, get to experience the stress of jumping through even more hoops in order to stay alive. Ah, the kindness of the undemocratic, despotic Harper government.

It's ironic that qualifying for EI has become so harsh, at a time when unemployment rates in the Conservative heartland are at record lows.

But when those areas suffered from chronic unemployment, previous governments never attempted to penalize their eligibility.

It's also suspicious that with national unemployment at a low rate of 7.2%, payroll deductions for the program are at an all time high. And the Conservative government keeps raising them.

So basically, we have a situation where all workers are being forced to buy into an insurance program they will most likely be denied access to, should they ever need it.

There's no question, at one time, abuse of the program by it's participants was an issue. But now, abuse of the Employment Insurance program by the Conservative government and it's bureaucracy, is a much more serious issue for Canadian taxpayers.

Disgusting all there is to it they are just denying benefits to as many as possible while blaming those out of work for their problems. This gives employers far to much muscle over workers abuse is going to be rampant. Slavery to follow.

This Government has to go and soon!
