If they would have been thinking, they would have scheduled a G-20 summit for this evening and had 2 riots for the price of one.

Loosing the game is only an excuse. This is violence for the sake of violence. I hope they throw the book at these losers.
01:15 AM on 06/16/2011
Ashamed to be Canadian right now.
01:17 AM on 06/16/2011
You shouldn't be. I can't see this happening in Calgary, Toronto, or Montreal.

Doesn't change the fact that these are my countrymen. Just embarrassing.

This is not reflective of most of the people in Vancouver. I have had many calls from friends and neighbors in the last hour who are really angry about this disgusting scene. It is an blot on our city. I highly doubt the rioters are the granola crunchers - these are suburban young punks who have spent the day getting drunk.

Why? Because of a few bad apples?
01:20 AM on 06/16/2011
A few bad apples would be confined to one area, It's been over 2 hours, I think at this point we can say it's more than a few bad apples.
01:11 AM on 06/16/2011
Hey, what did I tell you guys this morning? The mouth-breathers come in from the suburbs and destroy it for everyone. Everyone in Vancouver knows what the Surrey crowd is like so why the surprise?!?
01:48 AM on 06/16/2011
Wow. broad brush, skippy.
There are tens of thousands of decent people living in BC's largest municipality.
04:27 AM on 06/16/2011
You may want to check your own backyard first before casting aspersions, some of these hooligans came too well prepared. Maybe check out your own eastside neighbourhoods, local colleges etc. I suspect this was going to happen "win or lose".

More Rubber bullets, and lovely hot pink t-shirts on the police that say ''Rioters WILL be shot, HAVE A NICE DAY'' for the next big sporting gig.
01:13 AM on 06/16/2011
Ya right. The police are handling it just fine. There are just a few morons and a bunch of lookie loos who have not enough sense to just get out of there.
01:08 AM on 06/16/2011
I wanted to say what a great fight the Canucks fought, I will always be a fan. Your coverage of the gamesa was brilliant. Thank you to the brave reporters out there covering the mahem and the officers risking their lives to keep the peace, sorry for Vancouver to have to go through this, it's appauling. Be careful out there guys, sincerely, Joanne Jeeves
01:08 AM on 06/16/2011
I don't think that this riot is due to the fact that the Canucks lost. The same thing would have happened if they had won as the goons of Vancouver were just looking for any excuse to let loose. How embarrassing for Canada! I wouldn't blame Americans for feeling smug and superior at this point.
01:12 AM on 06/16/2011
Eh it's better than Los Angeles 1992.
02:02 AM on 06/16/2011
Again, these people I can assure you do not actually live in Vancouver...

This Bostonian says: Glad the Bruins won and my congrats to the Canucks for a great series.

And I'm hoping for some serious jail time for a bunch of liquored-up yahoos who have to ruin it for all real sports fans.

You have a great city. It gets better every year.
01:35 AM on 06/16/2011
Thank you for recognizing real fans wouldn't act like that...It irritates me beyond belief that anyone would call these hooligans "Fans" and possibly paint the rest of us real hockey fans with the same brush...As a Canadian, I am very embarrassed because of this criminal behaviour and hope there is serious jail time handed out as well...no real fan would act like that...Congrats to Boston for a well-deserved win!

These are some of the people who sat in judgment of Americans gathering to support each other after bin Laden's death...people who lost family & friends in 9/11. Tell me again how bad Americans suck, because I don't see perfect behavior by these folks over a stupid hockey game.

all the ones that get arrested should have to clean the hole city up from game its a damn shame to all of us

When they wake up they will have still lost and their downtown destroyed. Those aren't hockey fans, just hoodlums who won't show their faces. Sick
12:51 AM on 06/16/2011
Watching this, I'm really glad the US lost the Gold Medal Game last year. I wouldn't want anyone to have been hurt.

You know I'm not a Canucks fan, I despise them. But I sorta get the feeling your only purpose here is to trash Canada, and if that's the case, that's pretty sad.
01:16 AM on 06/16/2011
If the games were in Toronto, Hamilton, or Montreal I wouldn't feel this way, but they were in Vancouver.

Feeling superior by putting other countries down. This can't be news to you.
