Salma Hayek Flew A Mariachi Band To Cannes For The Best Reason

As if anyone really needs a reason.

Salma Hayek was so proud of the Latino star power present at the Cannes Film Festival last month, she hired a mariachi band to celebrate.

The Mexican actress appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Tuesday, where she explained how and why she orchestrated the impromptu performance, which took place during the festival’s 70th anniversary gala dinner on May 23.

“I realize that out of these hundred people from all over the world, at least 10 percent were Latinos, most of the 10 percent were Mexican, and they were my friends,” Hayek said of the festival. “And I felt such a sense of pride and I was so moved that I went crazy.”

So much so, the “Beatriz At Dinner” actress said, that mere hours before the dinner was set to begin, she declared to her husband, François-Henri Pinault, “We need to bring a mariachi tonight!”

Though her husband expressed some doubt, Hayek made it happen. She flew a band in from Paris and rounded up what mezcal and tequila she could.

“It was a big production,” she told Colbert. But well worth it.

Video clips of the event shared on Hayek’s Instagram page show everyone in attendance, including Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu and many others, singing along with the band and having an overall good time.

A very good time.

“It was amazing. Everybody went crazy,” Hayek said of the event. “It was a huge success.”
