I really think we've sunk to depths we would once have thought unimaginable.
It's bad enough that the Republican nominee for president of the United States has lied and cheated his entire life; that he has bent the rules to suit himself, that he has left countless people holding the bag; that the only words that come out of his mouth are vile, vicious and frankly, libelous... that he insults, bullies, threatens, taunts, incites violence and instills fear... that he advocates torture and the use of nuclear weapons... that he cozies up to the enemy... that he encourages and invites anger, hatred, security breeches and even assassination -- yes, that's bad enough.
But that the leaders of the Republican Party and the RNC have yet to denounce him; have yet to withdraw their support; have yet to stand before the media and apologize to the American people and to all those, worldwide, who he's criticized and denigrated -- well, that is just a disgrace.
I'm not a Republican, never have been, never would be, not that I'm American. I just don't agree with their platforms and policies. But what I'm talking about isn't about politics or political parties. It's about humanity. And decency. And democracy. And freedom. And rights. And the law.
Donald Trump's behaviour is absolutely unconscionable. But I hold the media partly to blame for his rise because they have covered his every move and discussed and dissected, at great length, his every word.
He has dominated the airwaves for more than a year now. The only subject that's received almost as much attention is Hillary Clinton's private email server.
As for what I think of Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Reince Priebus and their ilk, let me just say they should be booted out of office for their shameful betrayal of the American people. And don't get me started on the Trump offspring and all the surrogates who keep making excuses for him, refuse to ever acknowledge he's gone too far and, when questioned or challenged, immediately switch the conversation and point fingers at his opponent and President Obama.
How they can stand themselves, how they can look at themselves in the mirror, how they can look their children in the eye, I don't know.
What I do know is, I have no respect for all those who should know so much better. For all those who are allowing this to go on, unchecked. For all those who, because of their inaction, are telling the world they condone and agree with Trump's sick beliefs and twisted rhetoric, that they stand with him and share his "values," such as they are.
How far does he have to go before you get it? Before you get off your self-serving butts and do the right thing?
To each and every one of you, I have this to say: If God forbid, his message gets through to his gun-toting followers and they start shooting ... if God forbid, he actually wins the election in November and drags America into the worst kind of Hell, you'll own it, so good luck living with yourselves. And that also goes for all those misguided enough to vote for him.
And, by the way, karma's a bitch.
