I Took My Mom to a Drag Show...and She Loved it!

My mother is going to a drag show next week. And I'm not the one dragging her there. This past summer I was lucky enough to catch Jinkx Monsoon, the most recent winner of RuPaul's Drag Race, in her cabaret show The Vaudevillians. So lucky, in fact, that I saw the show twice in the week I was there. I even dragged my mother along to the second viewing in order to score VIP seats. Mom's an OBGYN in her fifties and would much prefer a British mystery series to live theatre, but when The Vaudevillians ended that night I realized something: she had been quiet throughout the performance.

This Means War: My Pre-Shop at Maison Martin Margiela For H&M

I won entrance into the pre-shop for the highly coveted Margiela collection at H&M the night before it opened to the public. We had four in our group, but it was everyone for themselves on the second floor. I did quite well climbing through racks and saying "sorry" compulsively to trick people into thinking I was polite and not a blood-hungry Margiela fiend.

Confessions Of A Fashion Hoarder

Like any addict I started small, working my way up from shoes to sequins to vintage novelty anything. Then it began as a means to keep up with the competition: if a blogger was talking about it, I wanted it, or if I thought it would be an upcoming trend, I had to have it. It was at a point where I felt this compulsive need to constantly be checking what was new, and "in", and on the backs of my fashion icons.

Ode To A Wedge Sneaker

Wedge sneakers were due for some poetry since their invasion and take-over of the feet of the young, frivolous, and trendy in mid-2011, but it wasn't until I saw their latest incarnation from the original sneaker maven, Madame Isabel Marant, that I felt compelled to write a ditty myself...

Too Fat For Fashion?

I have gained some weight and am at my biggest to date in these 22 years. At this size, the only way I'm participating in any of the new fashions is if I get some serious alterations, mainly in the booty region. The worst part about my struggle with ill-fitting clothes was that I didn't want anyone to think less of me as a fashionista. I am ashamed that my concern with my weight gain was not my health or well-being, but what I could no longer wear nor buy.

Why I Love Canada: Even City Girls Feel at Home in a Canoe

I belong in the city: sidewalks to keep my shoes clean, garbage receptacles every few steps, women spraying me with concoctions on Bloor Street -- the city needs me. Algonquin Park does not need me, in fact I feel like it'd rather I not be over. But I discovered my patriotism not in fireworks or beaver tails, but in a paddle. Out in the water with trees all around me, watching my paddle slice in and out of the water, I got why people do this.

Does My Tattoo Match My Shoes?

Or my bag. With this particular tattoo of mine it could really go both ways, but that is if you're the kind of person who frequents animal-themed accessories, which I am.
