Heather Feldstein is fanatical about children's books. She loves writing them, reading them and reviewing them! Taking this passion to the blogosphere, in 2009 Heather launched WordsByMom.com to showcase modern children's books for parents of young readers.

Her website isn't designed to feature bestsellers from the local children's bookstore, although Heather encourages parents to buy all kinds of great books for their kids. The goal of WordsByMom.com is to acquaint parents with some of the quieter masterpieces of today's children's literature; the quality books that don't necessarily jump off the bookshelves.

As a mother of two busy, active kids, Heather was struggling to find good quality children’s books, outside of the classics that she knew from her childhood. That’s not to say that there aren’t modern quality kids’ books out there. On the contrary, Heather uncovered an abundance of talented contemporary authors and illustrators, producing wonderful stories. She felt that with so many choices on today’s bookshelves, it was hard to decide what books touch her and her children and which ones wouldn’t. Which books would enrich their story-reading, and which would not.

Heather graduated from York University in 1997 with an Honours degree in Psychology. She has been featured on several radio shows, talking about WordsByMom.com and the importance of reading with and to children, including guest spots on Radio Disney and The Mom RN Show with Tamara Walker. She is the featured book blogaholic on Parent Tested, Parent Approved Media.

Heather's hope for visitors to her site is to discover the children’s books of today, fall in love with the richness of their characters and the beauty of their stories, and really be a part of creating new classics! With that foundation, families' subsequent visits to their neighbourhood bookstore can be met with more focused searches, and a lot less uncertainty about their purchases, all for the love of reading.

Heather can be reached at heather@wordsbymom.com. Her website is WordsByMom.com.

My business world is that of picture books... reading, writing, reviewing and keeping tabs on what's hot and what's not. There has been much buzz of late, arguing that the picture book is dead. Whether it's because of the e-book world or simply because kids are moving into chapter books...
