Daylight Savings Time Reminders: Use 'Spring Forward' For Spring Cleaning

Daylight Savings Time As Spring Cleaning Reminder

Daylight savings time is often a source of mass confusion for the population (for example, 'daylight saving' is the proper term, while 'daylight savings' is the one used most often), and no matter how many times you've gone through it, some errors always result.

"Did I change my clock, or did it do it automatically?" "Is that actually the right time?" "I thought we were meeting at 11 a.m. yesterday's time!"

So while we've covered when to actually flip the clock and intoned the cutesy mnemonics ("spring forward!") to help with the initial change, using this time of year as a reminder for all things household can get you a jump start on spring cleaning.

In the video above, chef Todd Mohr advises getting your outdoor cooking gear primed and ready for barbecue season, starting with cleaning the grill and ensuring the tank is free of leaks -- and full of propane. The detailed explanations will help out anyone looking to get outside early with their burgers.

But there are many other tasks that can be tied to daylight savings time, including replacing the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, changing furnace filters for more efficient use of your heater and air conditioner, and even checking the windows to make sure screens survived the winter.

It sounds like a bit of a pain, but think of this way -- it'll take you one step closer to spring.
