A foul-smelling substance played a role in attacks on two Vancouver fur stores this week.

The first attack took place between 6 p.m. on Monday and 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release.

Police said an individual sprayed an "unknown substance" that smelled of "sour milk" into the mail slot of Speiser Furs, tainting the store's items with the foul odour.

The second attack took place Tuseday at around 3:45 a.m. at Snowflake Furs. Two masked individuals sprayed the store's interior with a substance that smelled, again, like sour milk.

The incidents mark the second time that these stores have been targeted by vandals in three months. Police in May were looking for disguised vandals who hurled red paint at fur stores Snowflake Furs, Speiser Furs and Pappas Furs, the Province reported.

Police released a surveillance video at the time showing vandals throwing paint on the windows of Snowflake Furs.

A group calling itself the "Animal Liberation Front" took credit for that vandalism, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Police spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton said there was no confirmation that animal activists were involved in the latest incidents.

"There has been no association made in these most recent cases, by any particular group or people," he told The Huffington Post B.C.

Houghton added that police hope to obtain surveillance video of the latest incidents and release it this week.
