The Tiffin Project, a new lunch delivery program in Vancouver has a mission to get rid of unwanted waste and replace your favourite restaurant meals in steel tiffins according to the Vancouver Sun. The project also aims to help Vancouver restaurateurs buy local farm produce rather than relying on imports.
Tiffins have been around for years. The round steel containers are a popular method of lunch delivery in cities like Mumbai in India. The dabbawallas or the ones who carry a box, can deliver up to 200,000 lunches a day — with very few mix-ups, according to The BBC.
Across most cities in Canada, if nearby restaurants don't offer take-out menus, there are custom lunch services that specialize in healthy lunch delivery. For most of us, having the time (and money) to come up with healthy food options every day isn't always the easiest option.
According to a 2009 study by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, at least 41 per cent of Canadians said healthy meals take too long to prepare, according to the CBC. The study also found that at least 51 per cent of us said that fast food outlets didn't have enough healthy choices.
Besides services like Meals On Wheels — which has locations across 10 provinces in Canada and helps those in need — other smaller services have began delivering gourmet and frozen meals right to your door.
But if you're still trying to take a step back from all that take-out, Health Canada recommends creating meal plans by using a calender, menu planner, and grocery lists.
