Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter, pop star and angular haircut model Miley Cyrus, announced that she was supporting Barack Obama in a recent Tweet, but he had been planning to keep his own opinions on the forthcoming election to himself.

"The only thing I know for sure about anything is that I don't know nothing," the country singer and actor tells the Huffington Post Canada when asked about his feelings on the candidates. "Second of all, probably the last thing the world wants to hear is another celebrity opinion."

Cyrus admits that many people have been asking him about his views on the current situation, though, and for good reason. In the two decades since the singer was thrust into the spotlight with his breakthrough hit, "Achy Breaky Heart," he has been associated with both sides of the political spectrum.

"I do have an interesting background, politically," Cyrus admits.

President George Bush took a liking to the mullet-sporting singer after seeing him at the 1992 CMA Awards and wrote him a letter. He spent time riding the campaign train with Bill Clinton and Al Gore before the 1996 election, and got to know both of them quite well. George W. Bush used "We the People," a song that Cyrus recorded with Waylon Jennings and Montgomery Gentry, as his official anthem. Billy Ray also performed with Miley at a Kids' Inaugural Concert in honour of Barack Obama in 2009.

"It's been kind of odd," he muses. "I've been in the middle of several elections that, quite frankly, I didn't ask to get in the middle of 'em. But somehow I did and so I guess I'm going to go get in the middle of another one."

Enough people have asked Cyrus about the current election that he's decided to finally open up about his beliefs and feelings during his October 24 appearance on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight.

"There's going to be no secrets, no holds barred. I'm going to say exactly what I feel. And for anyone that cares about my opinion, they will know by the time I finish that show," he promises.

Although he'll offer no official Barack Obama or Mitt Romney endorsement in the meantime, he will say that he believes that the election marks an incredibly crucial moment in his country's history.

"Without a doubt, I think we can all agree, [this is] the most important presidential election in the history of the United States of America. It doesn't matter, the past is behind us. Everything else is behind us. We gotta get the right president. I know that for sure. Everyone knows that. American needs the right president."
