That sound that you just heard was thousands of Leafs fans screaming in glee as the Toronto Maple Leafs announced they were giving away 1,000 tickets to their Jan. 21 home opener against the Buffalo Sabres.

The team will also be giving away a ticket to each regular season ticket holder for the game on Monday night. The giveaways are part of the team's thank you to its fans after the NHL lockout forced the cancellation of almost half the season, including a Winter Classic game that would've featured the Leafs and Red Wings.

"The team will also giveaway [sic] 1,000 tickets through a variety of promotions leading up to the home opener, in addition to the more than 15,000 season seat holders receiving their tickets free of charge. The announcement was made following a free open practice at Air Canada Centre attended by thousands of Leafs Nation fans," the Leafs management wrote on their website.

FANS REACT TO LEAFS TICKET GIVEAWAY:

The team said they'll be giving away the tickets at a number of events throughout Toronto. According to the press release, members of the Leafs' promotional team will hand out tickets to fans dressed in Leafs gear, so fish out those sweaters. The team will also be unveiling three community rinks over the weekend and a special skating area at Nathan Phillips Square on the 21st. There will be ticket giveaways at all events.

Needless to say, it might also be a good idea to follow the Toronto Maple Leafs Twitter account and Facebook page for more information on their giveaways.
