Tamerlan Tzarnaev, Boston Bombing Suspect, Shot Dead By Police (LIVE UPDATES)

Dead Boston Bombing Suspect Named

Media reports have named Tamerlan Tzarnaev, 26, as the Boston bombing suspect shot dead overnight. Tamerlan's brother, Dzhokhar, is still on the run on Friday morning. The brothers are believed to be from Chechnya or the Russian-controlled region near Chechnya.

The brothers are believed to be responsible in the deadly shooting of an MIT police officer, a carjacking and a long drawn-out chase and shootout with police.

There are reports that Tamerlan may have had an IED or an explosive vest with him when he was shot. Tamerlan is reportedly an amateur boxer and a devoted muslim, according to this blog post by Foreign Policy magazine.

On Friday morning, large parts of Boston were on lockdown due to police activity. The city's public transit has been shut down and many businesses across the city are closed for the day.
