Jennifer Johanson, Cloverdale Rodeo Fight Video Star, Speaks Out

B.C. Rodeo Fight Suspect Speaks Out

A woman caught on video hurling racist insults at a Cloverdale Rodeo protester says she's not the one who started the fight.

Jennifer Johanson claims that protester Shukria got her going after holding up a sign at the rodeo that said, "Rodeo... when coward boys have fun," Global News reported.

Johanson said she lost her cool when Shukria said, "I’m not a Hindu, I’m Muslim, and I’m a terrorist and I’m going to bomb your house."

In the video, Johanson can be seen referring to the protester as a "shitskin," racist slang for people of Indian descent. Shukria repeatedly goads her to "hit me, come on, hit me," before a tussle ensues and the video cuts out.

Johanson admitted she made the racist remarks, though she also said she doesn't have a problem with other ethnicities, adding that she doesn't like terrorists.

Surrey RCMP say they plan on speaking to Johanson, although it's too early to say whether any charges will be laid, spokesman Cpl. Bert Paquet told The Province.

Investigators will speak to Johanson and a number of witnesses before deciding whether to lay charges, the newspaper reported.
