Most Canadians have probably fantasized about marking Parliament disappear, but one French magician actually wants to make it happen.
The illusionist and mentalist Frédéric Clément has announced plans to make the Centre Block of Parliament vanish.
At a news conference Wednesday, Clément said some 200 spectators who attend performances of his new “Vision: IMPOSSIBLE” show at the Canadian Museum of Civilization will get a chance to witness the building disappear. An exact time for the trick has yet to be announced, reports La Presse.
In a nod to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, audience members who hope to attend will need to complete three “missions.”
Clément, who must obtain several permits in order to perform the feat, said making Parliament disappear will involve a combination of “technique and psychology,” reports Radio-Canada.
Clément has been toying with this “dream” since August 1998. At the news conference -- at which he made a magazine that featured a story about him magically appear -- Clément said he wanted to emulate the extravagant works of David Copperfield, who once made the Statue of Liberty vanish.
“People that have made it in this business are the ones that made big publicity stunts,” he told Radio-Canada.
The show, which includes stunts such as stepping through a giant industrial fan and emerging unscathed and splitting his assistants into several pieces then reconstructing them, will run from July 12 to October 25.
