Summer has arrived, and that means Canadians are ready to take to the streets with abandon. Artists, retailers, chefs, musicians, and performers can be found no matter what part of the country you live in. Here's a look at some of the most fun and bargain-filled street fairs happening across Canada this summer.

Toronto

Taste of the Danforth

When: August 9 - 11

For two decades, Torontonians have looked forward to this annual food fair that features bites from restaurants along Danforth Avenue, one of the city's premier spots for multicultural dining. One million people are expected to gnosh their way through this year's event.

Buskerfest

When: August 22 - 25

More than 100 performers from around the world descend on Toronto for this wildly entertaining street festival that takes over the city's downtown Yonge area. Along with being treated to outstanding music, Buskerfest attendees will enjoy street performances from actors, comedians and artists of all sorts. The event supports Epilepsy Toronto, which makes it all the more worthwhile to attend.

Montreal

4th Annual Montreal Circus Arts Festival

When: July 2 - 14

The city of festivals continues to roll out amazing events that make it the most exciting city in the country during summer. This unique festival -- officially named Montréal Complètement Cirque -- is inspired by Cirque du Soleil and features professional and aspiring circus performers showing off their skills on the streets, as well as in theatre and concert venues.

Sainte-Catherine Street Celebrates!

When: July 13 - 14

Sidewalk shoppers, rejoice! This bustling thoroughfare, famed for its large storefronts and risqué nightclubs, turns into a giant party each July. Along with shopping bargains, DJs spin tunes and street food vendors serve up delicious eats. The deals are enough to attract many out-of-towners, too.

Vancouver

Chinatown Night Market

When: Fridays to Sundays, 6-11 pm, May 17-September 8

Never had Hainanese chicken? You will here, along with other amazing and exotic street food. Besides the unique eats, visitors will find shopping deals on a range of products, including artisan handiworks. You'll also be able to join in a game of Mahjong and catch classic movies on an outdoor screen.

Halifax

Multifest

When: June 21 - 13

The nation's Museum of Immigration is here, in the capital of Nova Scotia. In the 19th and 20th centuries, immigrants would be processed through the facility at Pier 21 as Canada's multicultural heritage started to unfold. This festival is a celebration of Canada's diversity and the origins of it, too. Performers, food vendors, artisans, and retailers combine in a delightful mix of entertainment, deals and delicious snacks.

St. John's

George Street Festival

When: August 1 - 6

On a normal night, George Street is already one of the biggest party streets in Canada. During this week-long celebration, the electricity and entertainment ramp up to levels that are off the chart. More than 40,000 people will party during the George Street Festival, which features a mix of free entertainment and concerts with marquee names, such as the Barenaked Ladies and Great Big Sea.

Winnipeg

Folklorama

When: August 4 - 17

More than 40 cultures are represented at this annual celebration of Winnipeg's diverse population. Dating to 1970, Folklorama bills itself as the "longest-running multicultural event of its kind in the world." The two-week event features a variety of cuisine, as well as musical and theatrical performances, storytelling, shopping bargains and cultural exchanges.

Edmonton

Taste of Edmonton Festival

When: July 18 - 27

It's not only about food. In its 29th year, the Taste of Edmonton features sips of wine, beer, and spirits, as well as the opportunity to purchase condiments and artisanal food and beverage products. More than 500,000 people are expected to visit Churchill Square during the 2013 celebration.

Charlottetown

Charlottetown Festival

When: July 1-August 2

You'll be able to see Canada's longest-running musical, Anne of Green Gables: The Musical, which is in its 48th year. Also, you'll catch theatre performers, comedians, musicians, storytellers and artists all in the heart of the Cradle of Confederation. Charlottetown offers the chance to brush up on history, enjoy great seafood and get to know Maritime culture.
