It could be a winter wonderland come early to Alberta this year.
According to Accuweather.com's fall forecast, released Tuesday, Alberta temperatures are expected to drop quite dramatically this autumn, meaning a colder-than-usual transition into winter.
Accuweather is forecasting an early start autumn, with freezing temperatures coming to the prairie provinces ahead of schedule.
But that won't come until October, Brett Anderson, Senior Meteorologist with Accuweather.com.
"September will be a bit warmer than usual and it'll be a bit drier than usual, overall," he said, adding that Calgary can expect fewer thunderstorms and precipitation than seen in recent months.
And while many parts of the country will relish in above-average temperatures October and November, ski and snowboard season may come early to Alberta, as snowy weather is predicted as early as October for the Canadian Rockies.
"I do think we'll see an earlier start to the season, for sure," said Anderson.
"We think there's going to be a persistent high-pressure ridge over northeastern Canada. It will force the colder air that builds up over the Yukon and Alaska, blasting it down onto the prairie provinces."
