Canada's Medal Count Gets Very Close To Total At 2010 Olympics

Canada's Medal Count Gets Close To 2010 Total

`

Canada's medal count at the Sochi Olympics is getting very close to its total from the Vancouver Games in 2010.

This is Canada's position in the medal standings at the end of Friday.

And this is how Canada finished in 2010.

With a guaranteed medal in men's hockey and chances left for glory in four-man bobsled, team pursuit speed skating and parallel slalom snowboarding, Canada could very well best the Vancouver total of 26 medals.

That said, it's now virtually impossible for Canada to match the 14 gold medals won in 2010.

But with Norway ahead by only one gold in the standings going into Saturday, Canada still has a good shot at finishing the Sochi Games at the top of the table.

Regardless of whether that happens or not, most Canadians will likely be happy to settle for a gold in men's hockey. The gold medal game starts at 7 am ET on Sunday morning. Go Canada go!

Update: A previous version of this story contained an incorrect medal total for Canada and Russia. This version has been corrected.
