HuffPost's Sunny Freeman, Ryan Maloney Among CAJ Award Finalists

HuffPost Canada Earns 3 CAJ Award Nominations

The Huffington Post Canada has been named as a finalist for three Canadian Association of Journalists awards.

Business reporter Sunny Freeman has been nominated in the online category for her series Staking Claim: First Nations and Resource Development in the Ring of Fire” examining how mining in Northern Ontario affects First Nation communities.

Other finalists in the category include the CBC, Global News and Globalite Magazine.

Huffington Post Canada’s politics editor, Ryan Maloney, is a finalist in the feature category for his story about a Canadian veteran who suffered a brain injury and his ensuing battle for a fair pension.

Also nominated in the feature category are Chatelaine, The Globe and Mail, and The Saskatoon StarPhoenix.

A group of University of King’s College students are also nominated in the student category for an investigative series published in partnership with HuffPost. It looked at Nova Scotia’s overburdened housing system for persons with intellectual disabilities.

The awards honour the best investigative reporting of the year in online, print, magazine and television. Also nominated are some of 2013’s biggest stories, such as the Toronto Star’s uncovering of the Rob Ford Scandal and CTV’s coverage of the senate scandal.

Winners will be announced May 10 in Vancouver.
