May Day 2014 has so far been marked by rallies, celebrations, protests and clashes around the world, which is pretty much what has happened every May 1 to mark International Workers Day since a protest demanding an eight-hour workday held in Chicago back in 1886 turned fatally violent.
But what's a protest or a celebration without music?
To mark this year's May Day, former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is releasing his 2011 solo record "Union Town" for free on morellomayday.com. The EP contains solo songs like the title track and covers like "This Land is Your Land" and "16 Tons."
"This record is dedicated to working people of every nationality, age, color, and religion who have the courage to stand up for justice and dignity in the workplace...and beyond," he wrote. "Enjoy the tunes and fight the power!"
So in solidarity, we've also collected some great songs honouring working men and women, from Kool Moe Dee's I Got To Work" to to Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" to John Lennon's "Working Class Hero."
