Newfoundland Fishermen Rescued Off Ice By Military (VIDEO, TWEETS)

An Icy Rescue Off The Coast Of Newfoundland

Canadian Forces personnel rescued five fishermen from an ice floe off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador on Sunday night after they were forced to abandon ship.

The DLL Venture fishing vessel was travelling in the Notre Dame Bay area when it took on water, Maj. Martell Thompson with the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax told CBC News.

Its passengers then took a raft and waited for help on an ice floe, Thompson added.

All were later airlifted by Cormorant Helicopter and flown to La Scie, N.L., without requiring medical attention, the network reported.

Joint Task Force (JTF) Atlantic, which coordinates Canadian Forces operations in Eastern Canada, posted some spectacular photos and video of the rescue to Twitter.
