A strong summer storm knocked out power in parts of the GTA on Tuesday.
Large parts of Toronto experienced power outages in the early evening with many tweeting using the #DarkTO hashtag
As of 6:50 pm ET, Toronto Hydro's power outage map was showing outages particularly in the west and north of the city.
Shortly after 7:15 pm ET, the Toronto Star estimated that some 23,000 customers across Ontario were without power with 4,400 of these being in Toronto.
Earlier the storm affected the suburb of Markham, Ont.
The storm also knocked out power and did damage to homes outside of the GTA. The town of Angus was reportedly hit by a tornado.
London, Ont. and Hamilton also reported sporadic outages earlier on Thursday.
