UPDATE:Late Thursday, RCMP announced the engraved ring had been recovered and a 22-year-old woman from High Prairie, Alta., was in custody.
Brad Jacobs, one of the Canadian Men's curlers who brought home gold earlier this year, is missing his Sochi 2014 championship ring after it was stolen from a hotel.
He believes the ring was taken while he was participating in a charity golf tournament in Boyle, Alta. last week.
Jones told CBC News the ring was lifted between 1 and 2 a.m. on June 20, when he and other players were in the hotel bar.
"We obviously knew that was a little weird with it being deadbolted from the inside, and I immediately went to the drawer where I kept all my stuff...and the only thing that was left there was my wedding band."
Jacobs' cellphone, bracelet, watch and wallet were also taken, reports Global News, but RCMP have since recovered the wallet and are returning it to him.
The ring is described as having a square face with the Olympic rings in the centre. The face of the ring is inscribed with "Olympic Champions 2014." An engraving on the inside of the band reads "Brad Jacobs Skip."
In a police statement, Boyle Mayor Don Radmanovich said theft is a "rare occurrence" in the town. "We happen to have a very strong police presence in the Village of Boyle and crimes like this just generally don’t happen in our community."
Police say another room was also broken into, but did not indicate if any other items were missing.
