Timothy Joseph Ouellette, a Vancouver Island elementary teacher, has been banned from teaching in B.C. after he was convicted of possessing child pornography.

Ouellette, 46, worked at the Sunset Elementary School in Port McNeill as an information technology teacher. He was suspended the day after RCMP arrested him in March 2012. They seized "multiple pieces of evidence" from his apartment.

The school district did not renew his contract when it expired that summer, and he has not taught in the province since his arrest.

Ouellette was charged with distributing and possessing child pornography. Last year, he was sentenced to four months in jail plus probation on the latter offence.

RCMP said they didn't believe any children depicted in the evidence were from the Port McNeill area.

A consent resolution agreement published on the B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch website this month states that Ouellette will not apply for a teaching certificate, nor will the director issue him one if he does apply.
