Fall is still two weeks away, but Mother Nature clearly has different weather plans for Alberta.
People around the province woke up to snow Monday morning, after an "unseasonably cold Arctic airmass" descended over the province Sunday evening.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for Airdire, Cochrane, Hinton, Grande Cache, Kananaskis, Canmore, Nordegg and area, Okotoks, High River, Rocky Mountain House, Whitecourt, and Edson.
More than five centimetres is expected to fall across much of the province, including Calgary and Edmonton.
People in Alberta's major cities took to Twitter Monday morning, to lament the early snowfall.
The real snowfall winner (or loser, depending on how you look at it), is Grande Cache, whose residents woke up to several centimetres of snow.
The snow in Grande Cache was so heavy and thick, it cut power to many homes.
It could always be worse, however. As the Calgary Herald points out, on September 19, 1895, 19 centimetres of snow fell on Calgary.
Also, this unseasonable fit isn't expected to last long. As the week goes on, the weather will improve. Temperatures around many parts of the province will climb back into the high teens or low 20s by the end of the week.
