Is Justin Bieber this generation's Marky Mark?
That's what the execs at Calvin Klein were betting on when they put the Canadian pop star front and centre in their new spring 2015 campaign for Calvin Klein Jeans.
In the sexy ads, the 20-year-old wears nothing but his Calvins (undies and low-rise jeans) while posing provocatively next to supermodel Lara Stone—the Kate Moss to his Mark Wahlberg—who is also topless, wearing nothing but white CK jeans.
He also shows off his tats (and those abs) in nothing but tightie whities.
News that the Biebs was tapped as the next face of CK broke last July, and it was rumoured that Kim Kardashian's younger sister, model Kendall Jenner, would also appear in the ads, after posing in CK underwear on her Instagram page.
Of course, the Bieber ads are designed to make us think about the iconic Wahlberg/Moss Calvin Klein ads, which launched Kate's career. Years later, Kate would reveal that she felt deeply uncomfortable posing topless with the future movie star.
"I had a nervous breakdown when I was 17 or 18, when I had to go and work with Marky Mark and Herb Ritts," Moss told Vanity Fair. "It didn't feel like me at all. I felt really bad straddling this buff guy. I didn't like it. I couldn't get out of bed for two weeks. I thought I was going to die. I went to the doctor and he said, 'I'll give you some Valium,' and Francesca Sorrenti, thank God, said, 'You're not taking that.'"
