People are rallying to cover the funeral costs of a three-year-old Toronto boy who died Thursday after wandering away from home in the middle of the night wearing just a diaper and t-shirt.
A fundraiser set up through Tilt.com seeks donations to help cover the funeral for Elijah Marsh, who went missing from his grandmother's home in North York and later died in hospital.
UPDATE: Feb. 20 -- Elijah's last name is Marsh, not March as previously reported.
Tilt user Justin Kozuch has set up a page to raise $10,000 towards the cost of the boy's service.
"The death of this child must be truly devastating to the family and friends of Elijah, the many members of the law enforcement and medical community in Toronto, as well as the countless Torontonians who helped search for him," the campaign page reads.
Kozuch's campaign had raised almost $900 toward its goal as of Thursday afternoon. The campaign will remain active for nine days, and donors will only be charged if it raises $5,000.
Elijah's family noticed him missing from around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. A surveillance camera filmed him leaving the building on his own at approximately 4:05 a.m.
CBC News reported that the temperature outside was -19 degrees Celsius when he left, but that it felt like -28 with windchill.
The boy was found by search volunteers about 300 metres away from the apartment, but was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
