The "Alien" franchise has passed through many directors' hands since Ridley Scott launched it in 1979.
And its latest helmer is likely to offer one of the most insane takes yet.
Vancouver Film School-trained director Neill Blomkamp, of "District 9" fame, teased on his Instagram Thursday that he may direct a film in the "Alien" universe.
Sources told Variety that 20th Century Fox had, indeed, secured an agreement for Blomkamp to direct a film in the popular sci-fi franchise.
The film, Variety said, is expected to take place years after the sequel to 2012's "Prometheus," which Scott is producing for a projected 2016 release date.
Scott will also produce Blomkamp's film, the magazine reported.
News about the new "Alien" film comes just under two months after Blomkamp posted some incredible concept art to his Instagram account.
The posts included a drawing of the alien queen that terrorized Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley in 1986's "Aliens," as well as Cpl. Dwayne Hicks (Michael Biehn), a character from the same film who was killed off in 1992's "Alien³."
Blomkamp last directed 2013's "Elysium" and his next film, "Chappie," will be released on March 6.
