Aurora Borealis Put On Spectacular Display In Alberta (PHOTOS)

A Spectacular Show In Northern Alberta

Around the world, people in the northern hemisphere were treated to a spectacular display of aurora borealis last night, but the lucky folk in northern Alberta have been witness to the light show almost all week.

Earth underwent a particularly severe solar storm yesterday, with a surprisingly big geomagnetic jolt — the likes of which have not been seen since the fall of 2013. Colourful northern lights were pushed farther south, and places like Toronto and parts of the United States were treated to a display rarely seen at lower latitudes.

The aurora, however, are nothing new to Albertans, and photographers around the province have been picking up the colourful displays on camera lenses for the past few days. Check out some of the best photos captured in the central and northern parts of the province:
