They're going to need a civilian superhero to help bring down the bad guy, after a rare Superman comic vanished from an Edmonton comic book store last week.
Staff at Happy Harbor Comics noticed last Wednesday that their copy of Superman #3 had disappeared.
After a quick search to determine if it had been misplaced, store owner Jay Bardyla said it was clear the comic had been stolen.
Bardyla told CBC News that the comic, which was published in 1938 and worth about $2,000, had been on display on a high shelf in the store, but was not under lock-and-key.
"The book isn't what we consider to be a high-grade condition, it was a very low-grade. It had some tears in it and some stuff like that," he said, adding a mint-condition copy of the same comic could probably fetch around $30,000.
Still, he said, the thief must have gone through some trouble to sneak off with it.
“It would take me effort. I can’t reach it and I’m 6'3". For somebody else to get it they’d have to put some effort into it,” he told Global News.
Bardyla told the Edmonton Journal he's put out the call on social media, asking other comic book fans to help solve the caper, but said he didn't report the theft to police.
"They really have bigger issues to deal with right now...they can focus on what’s important and necessary for them and we’ll do what we can on our end."
