Brace yourselves, because this English Bulldog is about to melt your heart.
In the video above by Inside Edition, we get a closer look at Bonsai, the half-dog who was born with multiple deformities including a missing pelvis, half a spine and tiny hind legs that couldn't support his weight.
The English Bulldog is believed to be the only animal in the world diagnosed with the human conditions Sacral Agensis, Sacrocaudal Dysgenesis and Spina Bifida. And if all that weren't enough, he was also born a "Walrus Puppy," meaning some of his organs were filled with fluid.
At only 8.5 weeks old, the playful pup — who was given to Friends of Emma rescue organization by a breeder — went into a life-changing surgery to remove his hind legs. While the surgery was successful, it wasn't a simple procedure. According to his Facebook page, the best position for Bonsai to be in during the surgery was on his back, but his oxygen levels kept dropping, forcing his surgeon to turn him over and work upside-down.
Just 16 hours after his operation, Bonsai seemed to be in good spirits, playfully biting and growling at those around him and even balancing his body weight on his front paws.
More than $4,500 has been raised to support Bonsai's lifelong care, but donations are still being accepted for all of Friends of Emma rescues.
