When Kittens And Puppies Meet, The Cute Is Out Of Control

Cats and dogs hate each other right? Wrong.

In the video above by Buzzfeed, we watch as kittens and puppies are put together for the very first time. Sure, there's a little swatting but for the most part, there's just a lot of smelling and licking.

So why do people still believe dogs and cats can't get along? As Dr. Gary Landsberg, a board-certified veterinary behaviourist, explained to Canadian Living, cats and dogs can become fearful and cautious of each other if they are do not have contact at an early stage in their development.

And just because you might have an older dog doesn't mean it can't become friends with a new cat. The animal experts at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals say it's much trickier to introduce your cat to a new dog, but over time, both animals can learn to have a trusting relationship.

But if your efforts to bring your pets closer isn't working out, you might want to consider backing off. Pet insurance provider Trupanion suggests being patient with the introductions and giving each animal their own space.
