Rapper Sofia Ashraf has a important message for Unilever, and it turns out the world is listening.
The now viral "Anaconda"-inspired music video entitled "Kodaikanal Won't," was posted on YouTube by Indian grassroots campaigning group Jhatkaa last week.
In the almost three-minute track, which is set to the popular Nicki Minaj hit, the Chennai-born rapper takes a powerful jab at Unilever's Kodaikanal thermometer assembly plant. In the video above, Ashraf raps that the company has failed to address issues of mercury poisoning, as well as unsafe working conditions for employees and people who live in the area.
Jhatkaa has set up a petition and also has interviews with ex-workers who describe the plant's terrible working conditions.
