Newfoundland Looks Great Through The Lens Of This Photographer

We go back to Newfoundland and meet @Wellman86, another photographer who loves capturing images of life on the Rock.

Hi, I’m Justin Wellman. I’m from the Bay of Islands located on the beautiful West Coast of Newfoundland. I work outside (Natural Resources) and play outside. It’s a simple lifestyle that’s enjoyable and full of happiness. I’m as amateur as it gets, I shoot when I can and share just for fun.

I love to hike remote areas and capture my surroundings. Having the Long Range Mountains in my backyard provides endless mountain, ocean and fjord like vistas. Not to mention, an abundance of wildlife and flora. Photo opportunities are unlimited when photographing natural elements especially, with inspiring sights/sites that are only witnessed in a few parts of the word; the earth’s mantle.

My favorite tip would be to shoot lots and as often as you can. I taught myself by literally hiking hundreds of kilometers all while following and running ahead of friends. Spare time? It was all I did. Camera in hand all day shooting up to 600 photos per trek. I saw improvement, had fun with it and managed to capture a “few keepers” along my adventures; the road to photography.

I took an interest in photography when I started hiking and becoming more involved in adventure sports... just a few years ago. Growing up in a small rural area, I was surrounded by nature, beautiful places and things; I took them for granted. I met some awesome friends and we hiked/backpacked just about every hill around. It was on these rewarding adventures that I learned to appreciate and notice the little things in life.I wanted to share my “get outside” captures with friends and family on various social media networks. Instagram being the newest. Newfoundland is incredible. Truly unique and diverse.

When exploring the backcountry you tend to get close and personal with plenty of wildlife; like this moose for instance. This is a daily occurrence in Gros Morne National Park. Hiking offers lots of surprises and adrenaline rushes for all, making life memorable.

I enjoy seeing images from @explorenewfoundland and @dru_kennedy. These fellow west coasters love to get outside and explore Newfoundland’s diverse landscape all hours of the day. Their photos help inspire me to keep outside and reach less travelled remote places. Check em’ out you won’t be disappointed :)
