Henna Contouring Is Here, And It's Almost Too Beautiful To Blend

It's almost too pretty to blend!

If you think you saw the last of insane contouring trends, think again. Henna contouring is now here, and it's actually really impressive.

The technique was created by Zimbabwe-based blogger Shahina Aslam, who used intricate henna patterns to map out her face for highlighting and contouring as an entry to Anastasia Beverly Hills' Contour Kit contest. The makeup brand is offering a grand prize of $10,000 to the contestant with the most impressive 60-second scultping video.

"I am an Indian girl who wears Hijab, why not take advantage of my culture and show it off in a beautiful way?" Aslam told Marie Claire. "It's really just for fun, and only took me two minutes, even though I'm not great with henna designs."

A few weeks later, Pakistani henna/makeup artist Sahur Saleim did her own version, which gained a ton of popularity after she was regrammed by Huda Kattan, a Dubai-based blogger who has over six million followers on Instagram.

Both Aslam and Saleim use a fine-tip brush to apply highlighting product under the eyes, in the centre of the forehead, down the middle of the nose and on the chin in a beautiful henna design. They draw the same designs with darker shades to contour under the cheekbones, along the temples and down the sides of the nose. Then, they blend, blend, blend for a flawless finish.

"I pursue henna and being Pakistani, and having spent years in the Middle East, that was something I grew up on," explained Sahur to Marie Claire. "I tested henna patterns on half my face, took quick pictures and sent them to my friends for first impressions. All of them loved it so much, so I knew I had to pursue it all the way."
